THE BEST DIET.

The best diet is…(drumroll, please)…the one you can stick to for the long term!   Sounds boring?  We know.   It definitely not as appealing as highly marketed diets like keto, paleo, vegan, carnivore, Mediterranean, or Whole30.   But, it’s the truth.    Any of the diets we just mentioned (and more) can work for you.   Regardless of how different these diets may seem, most of them follow the same basic premise:

  • Guidelines – Eat these foods, don’t eat those foods, eat at a certain time of the day, eat this much of this food, etc.
  • Calorie Restriction – Want to lose weight?  Burn more calories than you eat each day.  Most of popular diets eliminate a certain foods or restrict the times you can eat, making it easier to put yourself into a calorie restriction
  • Focus on whole foods/Limit processed foods
  • Limit added sugar

The good news is that most any popular diet can work.   The bad news is that not many of them take into account your individual situation.    Not a fan of meat?  Good luck with the carnivore diet.    Love a good steak?   Forget about vegan.   Before deciding on an approach, think about you…what you like to eat, your preferred eating schedule, your life’s demands (family, work, etc.).   All of these aspects must be identified first.   Otherwise, you’re setting yourself up for failure.  At the end of the day, it all comes down to consistency.   You need to figure out what approach works best for you, and that doesn’t necessarily mean a brand name diet.
