STAY SATIATED, MY FRIENDS.
We often talk about the idea of “satiety” when it comes to eating. But what does it mean, why is it important, and how do we achieve it? Satiety is the state of being satisfied (or full) when or after we eat. We should feel satisfied at the end of each meal, a middle ground between still hungry and completely stuffed. It prevents us from food cravings until it’s time for our next meal. Foods that are high protein, fiber, and water provide us with the most satiety. They should be the focus of each and every meal because they fill up our stomachs, but without excess calories. They are also digested slowly, which slows our appetite.
What are some other potential daily practices to increase our satiety?
- Have a “pre meal” within 1-2 hours of your main meal
- Soup with high water content
- Salad with lots of veggies
- Drink a cup of water immediately before AND after every meal
- Eat slowly and mindfully, without distraction
The concept of satiety is a universal principle when it comes to eating. Regardless if you follow a keto diet or vegan diet, eating for satiety can be beneficial. This is why we often initially start our clients with these approaches. It is easily applied to any situation, to set a solid foundation for the journey ahead. Stay Satiated, my friends.
