Reflection

Health
Flourishing
Happiness

When we set health goals, we often think “big picture” and come up with some pretty lofty aspirations.  “I want six pack abs”…”I want to get below 10% body fat”…”I want to be able to fit into a size 3”.    It’s great to have these long term goals, but we run into an issue when we’re constantly trying to “catch the horizon”, in which everything is viewed through the lens of those goals.   When this happens, it’s easy to lose track of smaller progress being made in the here and now.   We get frustrated, lose our patience with the process, and revert back to our old ways.   Along your journey, it’s important reflect often.

  • What areas have your put forth the most effort and attention recently?
  • What are you most proud of recently and how will you celebrate this achievement?
  • What are you struggling with and how can you improve in that area?
  • What would you like to accomplish in this upcoming week?

By asking yourself these questions on a regular basis, you’ll be able to maintain a realistic perspective as you move through each day.   Yes, those lofty goals you set for yourself are still the eventual destination, but taking a progressive, day by day approach will ensure  the best possible outcome.  Stop trying to “catch the horizon” and start reflecting.
